Weekly Bulletin - June 4

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Last week was another busy one at Deal. Many of our 7th and 8th grade students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. It was so wonderful to celebrate our students' academic achievements, character, and resilience. Thank you to Ms. Stallworth, Ms. White and Ms. Watson for organizing the ceremony.

I hope you were able to attend our Spring Concert last Wednesday, which was simply fantastic! Thank you to Mr. d'Alelio, Mr. Ostle, and Mr. McKeithen for working with our students to create a great performance. Please take some time to watch highlights from our fabulous Jazz Band and Noted Choir!

Although our students will be dismissed at 12:15 pm on Friday, we have a very full week ahead. Tomorrow, a few of our students will participate in a focus group to discuss ways to improve our school, as well as share their ideas about student support and Deal's Advisory Program. Our teachers and staff participated in a similar process a few weeks ago. We are looking forward to gaining student perspective on how we can make Deal an even better place.

After just three short years of middle school, our 8th graders will participate in our 2018 Promotion Ceremony at American University's Bender Arena on Tuesday at 10:00 am. I am so proud of their academic and social growth. Our 8th graders are more than ready to tackle the challenges of high school.

On Tuesday, our 6th and 7th graders will participate in their end of the school year trips. The 6th graders will head off to Cameron Run, while our 7th graders travel to King's Dominion. If you have any questions or concerns regarding Tuesday's activities, please contact your child's grade-level administrator.

It has been an amazing year! Thank you to our community members and families for your love and support. To the awesome Deal Staff, we thank you for your unwavering dedication to our students, and for going above and beyond every day to uphold our mission of inspiring excellence, curiosity, and compassion through intellectual and social engagement. I wish our students a safe, fun, and exciting summer. I will miss hearing their voices in the halls and seeing their smiling faces. We ALL deserve a great summer vacation! See you in August.
