Weekly Bulletin - September 2

Principal's Message:

I hope you are enjoying the Labor Day Weekend! We have had a very positive first two weeks of school. Our 6th graders have learned their way around the school and are opening their lockers with ease. Our 7th graders have become accustomed to life in the cottage and Reno buildings. Our 8th graders have accepted the role of being the "oldest" in the building, and have modeled positive behaviors for our 6th and 7th graders.

Sixth Grade Workshops

On Wednesday and Thursday, nearly 250 families participated in our 6th Grade Workshops. Parents/Guardians learned about IB, Aspen, Deal Athletics, Special Education, and much more! A huge THANK YOU to our ADCA and Deal staff members who helped facilitate an informative night. We are looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming homeroom breakfasts!

Clubs and Activities

Our after-school clubs will begin this week! Thanks to our amazing staff, we are able to offer a myriad of activities for our students. As you know, participation in extracurricular activities on a regular basis is a great way to help students develop their individual personality, reduce emotional stress, and enhance social/academic skills. The more than 50 clubs and activities offered at Deal align with our Social Emotional and Academic Development (SEAD) goals to foster positive student-teacher relationships and positive peer interactions. By participating in the after-school programming at Deal, students will be able to:

  • Make new friends
  • Build relationships with supportive adults
  • Gain self confidence
  • Develop time management skills
  • Discover a passion

I strongly encourage our students to participate in at least one club/activity this year. The schedule will be included in the Weekly Bulletin, posted throughout the school, on the Alice Deal Website, and highlighted during the AM announcements. If you have any questions about specific clubs/activities, please contact the sponsor.

  • Participation in Deal clubs and activities is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders
  • Students must report to their club/activity by 3:30 pm
  • Students are able to join most clubs/activities at any point during the school year; however, consistent attendance is expected
  • If school is canceled or an early closure is necessary, our clubs and activities will be canceled. Stay Informed of Emergencies, Delays and Closures here.

IB Learner Profile Trait of the Month - CaringThe International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them. Each of the IB's programmes is committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile.

During the month of September, the Deal community will focus on CARING. Members of the Deal Community are conscious participants in fostering a caring community through empathy, compassion and respect. We have a commitment to service, and act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.

"Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For indeed, that's all who ever have." - Margaret Mead

Let's work together to change the world.
