DC CAPE This Week

Deal families are asked to learn more about DC CAPE by watching a short video. This 10-minute video covers helpful details about the test's content, format, dates, and ways to help your student prepare at home.

Students' DC CAPE scores fall into one of five performance levels, each describing how well the student met the expectations for their grade level/course:

  • Level 1: Did Not Yet Meet Expectations

  • Level 2: Partially Met Expectations

  • Level 3: Approached Expectations

  • Level 4: Met Expectations

  • Level 5: Exceeded Expectations

Let's LEVEL UP - Our goal is for all Deal students to GROW at least one level from last year.  Students who scored a Level 5 should grow within the Level score band.  The names of students who grow will be displayed in the lobby throughout the school year.  Here We Grow!

Students who are in accelerated math classes who do not score a Level 4 or 5 on the 2025 DC CAPE may be assigned to a math support class next year.

Our students have worked hard and learned a lot this year.  Ultimately, our goal is for all of our students to demonstrate mastery of the standards they have been taught.

Snacks and Mints

Shout out to families who have donated snacks for DC CAPE.  Additionally, we plan to provide each student with a peppermint on each day of testing.  The aroma of peppermint is linked to increased alertness and improved cognitive performance.

Attendance

We need all of our students to arrive on time (8:45 am) for testing every day.

  • Students who are absent and miss a day of testing will have to participate in Make-Up Testing.

  • Students who arrive after 8:45 am will be considered tardy and will not be permitted to test.  These students will remain in a holding area with other late students until the end of testing on that day.
