Earth & Planets Lab Open House
At this Carnegie lab, researchers hope to unlock the secrets of earthquakes, volcanoes, meteorites, and even the origins of life. Now we invite you to see it all for yourself on October 25, 2025 from 1 - 4 PM (rain or shine) at 5241 Broad Branch Road NW. Registration HERE is encouraged but not required.
This is a free event for the whole family.
At the Earth and Planets Laboratory (EPL), scientists study everything from the rocks beneath our feet to the planets and stars above. It's where researchers unlock the secrets of earthquakes, volcanoes, meteorites, and even the origins of life on Earth. Now we invite you to see it all for yourself! We'll have lots of hands-on fun appropriate for all ages. Explore interactive activities, meet the scientists, enjoy tasty science snacks (e.g., solar-caramelized polymers, also known as Sun-toasted marshmallows) and get a rare behind-the-scenes peek at the historic "Atom Smasher.”
