Pi Day @ Deal

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. Pi Day is an annual opportunity for Deal students to celebrate math, recite the infinite digits of Pi, and enjoy circular treats.

This year, we will celebrate Pi Day during math classes on Wednesday, March 13. The Digits of Pi Recitation Competition will take on Tuesday, March 12 (semi-finals) and Wednesday, March 13 (finals).

Grade 6

  • Math 6 students will develop the concept of pi in their math class on Wednesday, March 13 by participating in an inquiry lesson in which they will examine the ratio between the diameter and the circumference of a circle.

  • Math 7 students will find the volume of cylindrical or conical objects.

Grade 7 students will collect, record, and graph penny data to determine if Pi represents a proportional relationship (oh...and enjoy circular treats).

Grade 8 students will be discovering pi using the circumference and diameter

REMINDER - There is no school for students on Friday, March 15
