Speech and Debate
Last weekend the Deal Speech and Debate team traveled to Boston, MA for the annual Harvard University Speech and Debate Tournament. With almost 6,000 middle and high school students in attendance from 43 states and 3 foreign countries the Deal debaters certainly excelled.
In Lincoln-Douglas debate, the following students finished the preliminary rounds with winning records and advanced to the elimination rounds:
Yonatan Richman-Dreyfus—9th place, and 12th speaker in the high school Junior Varsity division;
Evelyn O'Flaherty-Horr—Double Octo finalist in the high school Junior Varsity division;
Charlotte Ray—Triple Octo finalist in the high school Junior Varsity division.
In Public Forum debate the following teams finished preliminaries with winning records and just missed qualifying for the elimination rounds in the Middle School division:
Rose Wilkins and Julia Beitler Leoni—3-2 record
Sydney Gonzalez Feria and Malda Dilargachew --3-2 record
Special thanks go out to the faculty and parents that supported the team throughout the weekend—Ms. Charles, Ms. Charity, Ms. Ford, Mr. Hyde-Parish, Ms. Riggs, and Mr. Dutta-Gupta. Shout out to Coach Stroud for all he does for the Deal Debate Program.
Congratulations debaters!
