Speech and Debate @ Deal

Last weekend the members of the Lincoln-Douglas debate team attended the first tournament of the year at Dominion High School in Loudon County Virginia.  Debating only against high school debaters from Virginia, Maryland and DC, Asher Baer completed the tournament with an undefeated record.  Congratulations Asher!

This weekend, the members of the Policy Debate team attended their second tournament of the Washington Urban Debate League tournament.  The following students were recognized with awards at the end of the tournament:

Novice Division Speakers:

  • Arabella Bernstein—13th place

  • Iris Wilkins—10th place

  • Beckett Morris—9th place

  • Nora Kahl—4th place

  • Aurora Felton—3rd place

Novice Division Debate:

  • Mayanga and Mae Shannon—14th Place

  • Iris Wilkins and Arabella Bernstein—11th Place

  • Aurora Felton and Emma Elton-Melzi—10th place

  • Maya Karson and Fiona Johnson—3rd place

  • Nora Kahl and Rose Gesheikter—1st place

JV Division Speaker:

  • Josie Caspar—8th place

  • Maggie Schonebaum—6th place

  • Adele Redmond—5th place

  • Anna Morgan—4th place

JV Division Debate:

  • Grier Swan—10th place

  • Josie Caspar and Venya Gulati—5th place

  • Ida Laitin and Anna Morgan—4th place

Congratulations to everyone on a great showing at both tournaments.  Next up, select policy and all Lincoln-Douglas debaters will participate in a tournament in Aldie, VA in mid-November.
