IB Assessments, Part 1

As an IB MYP school, assessments are given in two formal ways to allow students to receive specific feedback on specific skills.  Students take IB Formative assessments which are small assessments on one specific skill prior to taking an IB Summative assessment which are larger assessments on multiple and related skills including those practiced in the IB Formative.  Students in IB MYP schools are given feedback on these assessments using specific IB Rubrics.  These rubrics are referred to as IB Criterion.  Each content has 4 IB Criterion that are used throughout the year.  Typically, only 1 or 2 IB Criterions are used per unit or assessment.  IB Criterion Rubrics are scored on a 0-8.  Students see the feedback on the 0-8 rubric and then teachers convert the Criterion Rubric score to a 0-100 percentage in ASPEN.  As you look at your students' work and grades, it may be helpful to check out the IB Criterion Rubrics.  Rubrics should be provided by teachers with each IB Formative and Summative assessment.  The full Alice Deal Assessment policy can be found HERE on the Deal website.
